Facebook F8 2018 Keynotes

Facebook F8 is intended for developers and entrepreneurs who build products and services around the website. The 2018 F8 introduced new features, breakthrough technologies and ways the team will help connect people better.

The keynotes across different platforms include:

Facebook

  • Fighting Fake News: Content going viral will be flagged for fact checkers to look at it and show related articles for better accuracy of information shared on the platform.
  • Data Privacy:To get rid of bad advertisers, Facebook will analyze developers which had access to a large number of user accounts before Facebook implemented changes in its app policies in 2014 and suspend accounts with suspicious activity.
  • Ads Transparency tool launched in Canada: Facebook will deploy content reviewers to curb spam. It will also verify integrity and facts in news reports and give users a picture about the publication’s reputation. Users will also be able to track funds spent on election-related ads on Facebook campaign.
  • Clear History: With this feature, you will be able to see apps and websites you have interacted with, and be able to clear the history of your interactions from your account. This will give users more control over privacy.
  • Watch Party: With this feature, friends can enjoy shows or special moments together on Facebook.
  • Groups: Facebook will add a new Groups Tab to house all your group activities. This will enable group admins to collaborate to organize online campaigns, real world events, live video sessions with real-time comments to promote engagement.
  • Dating: Facebook hopes to encourage meaningful relationships, not just hookups by connecting users with similar interests over community activities and events. It allow users to find these events and unlock them thereby getting to view the profile of other users attending that event and have a private chat with them. However, Facebook will not let friends meet through the dating platform as it connects only users who are not friends on Facebook.

Instagram

The new explore
  • New Explore: A new design for explore will be launched. This will organize content around topic genre to help users discover content easily.
  • Video Chat: This will allow users to start one-on-one and group chats by tapping on the new camera icon on any direct thread.
  • AR Camera Effects: You can explore and try out filters that your friends have used on their feeds.

WhatsApp

  • Group Video Calling: Facebook finally brings this exciting tool to connect with friends and family.
  • WhatsApp Business: The previously released feature will now include tools for large businesses.

Messenger

  • Simplifying Messenger: The design of messenger will be changed to look like what we have in the image below for a simple and fast experience.

Augmented Reality Camera in All Apps

AR camera effects will be added to all Facebook apps — WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger.

Virtual Reality

Computer vision will be used to fill in the gap of pointillism effect and create great childhood experiences from pictures using VR.

  • Virtual Reality using Oculus Go: The newest hardware innovation of Facebook was announced at F8, the Oculus Go standalone VR headset which will go on sale at the starting price of $199. It is launching with more than a thousand (1000) apps with the highest quality, optics and lenses ever built on a VR device.
